The International Association of Bridge and Structural Ironworkers Local 229 was chartered June 26, 1918, in San Diego. Today, Local 229 has 1,299 members, made up of 849 journeymen, 122 apprentices, 327 retirees and one in military service. Its leaders are:

Local 229 works in conjunction with other organized labor organizations – including the AFL-CIO - to promote policies and information sharing that benefit working families, both in San Diego and Imperial counties, and across the United States.

The San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council is the AFL-CIO’s local affiliate, which includes 125 local labor groups.
