Partnering With the Community

Members of Ironworkers Local 229 not only build buildings and bridges that benefit the San Diego community, they also host community initiatives. Recent projects include:

  • San Diego Food Bank – During every year-end holiday season, Ironworkers sort, pack and load food donations in preparation for distribution to area families in need.
  • Letter Carriers’ Food Drive – After letter carriers pick up food donations along their delivery routes during their annual campaign, Ironworkers unload, sort and box the donations for distribution to food-drive recipients.
  • Jackie Robinson Playground at San Diego YMCA – In 2007, Ironworkers installed playground equipment for the children who depend on the YMCA for their recreational needs.
  • San Diego Facelift- Ironworkers local 229 volunteered to revitalize 10-15 homes within a one block radius in City Heights, a San Diego Neighborhood.
