Ironworker Apprentices are employed in four related segments of the trade:

1. Structural Ironworker. Assembles, erects and installs fabricated iron parts to form the skeleton of industrial, commercial and large residential buildings.
2. Reinforcing Ironworker. Fabricates and places steel bars in concrete forms to reinforce structures, such as building freeways, bridges, drainage channels and commercial structures.
3. Ornamental Ironworker: Installs metal stairways, catwalks, gratings, iron ladders, doors, gates, fences, platforms, railings and other “finishes” in the construction of large commercial, industrial and residential buildings.
4. Riggers and Machinery Movers. Loads, unloads and moves machinery equipment in the construction and maintenance of industrial plants and precast concrete structures.

Requirements to become an apprentice:

1. 18 Years old / Good Physical Condition
2. Pre-employment drug test required.
3. 4-year work/study program, which includes 204 hours per year in class work.
4. High School diploma, high school proficiency certificate or G.E.D.
5. Driver’s License and reliable transportation required.
6. Applications accepted Monday through Friday (except holidays) 9:00a.m.-11:00a.m.

Journeyman up-grading classes that are offered:

1. Welding (all process)
2. OSHA 10 hour Safety Training
3. First Aid / CPR training (6 Hr. class)
4. Forklift Training (4-6 Hr. class)
5. Scaffold user course
6. Lead Hazard Training ( 32Hr. class)
7. Post-Tensioning Certification
8. MSHA ( 9-32 Hr. class)
9. Qualified Rigger
10. Sub Part R Training

Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee meets second
Wednesday of each month at 12:00 p.m.
