Election Alert!!

Carl DeMaio, candidate for San Diego mayor, has waged war against working families and taxpayers while fighting on behalf of some of the nation’s most troubling special interests.

In 2000, DeMaio helped craft a plan to outsource more than 425,000 American jobs for the Bush Administration. He honed his skills at the right-wing Reason Foundation and in 2003, advised Republican candidates for governor with proposals for privatizing government jobs including state park rangers.

He has spearheaded ballot measures attacking living wages and public pensions, and as a member of city council, pushed for outsourcing and deep cuts to essential public services like fire protection and libraries.

Shaping Public Policy

Thanks to all L229 volunteers who helped the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council support the successful election campaigns of San Diego City Councilman Marti Emerald and California State Assemblyman Marty Block in Spring 2009.

Ironworkers are encouraged to get involved in volunteerism supporting political candidates and issues that matter to working families, their job security and the industries that employ them.

As the need arises, Ironworkers Local 229 sponsors a variety of grass-roots initiatives, such as phone banks and precinct walks for labor-friendly candidates.

Would you like to stand by your fellow ironworkers while together you help shape public policy? Complete and submit this convenient electronic form to indicate your interest or contact info@local229.org or 858-571-5238 for more information.
